Chapter 7
Ash’s entire body trembled as he held Tom’s hand and walked to his room. Tom had never been in the small space although Ash had been in Tom’s room many times. He supposed he could have taken Tom to his own room. It might have made Tom more comfortable, but Ash was anxious. This was his first time. His first time ever. Four hundred years was an obscenely long time to wait to share physical intimacy, but he had little choice. If he joined with anyone other than his aeternus he would never be able to bond to his aeternus should he find them later in life. It was a risk very few gargoyles were willing to take.
He had to pause at the door to hallway of his floor after he walked up the stairs. He slowly released a breath while facing the door. He didn’t want Tom to think him weak or inexperienced, but the reality was he had no experience beyond what he liked to do with his own body. Tom brushed past him at the door and pushed it open. He turned around to face Ash and grabbed both his hands.
“Come on. You have to want this as much as me.”
Ash had felt powerful, swept up in the emotions and passion when in the art room, but now his brain was kicking in. Tom tossed his dark hair back from his face. He was so carefree. His eyes smoldered, and his coy smile made Ash’s body tighten. From nervous one moment to hot and needy the next, Ash’s body bounded through a gamut of emotions.
Ash let Tom tug him along to his room. Tom didn’t hesitate at the door, but opened, walking right in and bringing Ash with him.
“You know I’ve never been in your room before.” Tom dropped Ash’s hand and spun to take in the space, stopping at the shelf covered in sculptures. He lifted one piece then another, examining both carefully. He turned to Ash still holding one gingerly in his hands.
“Who are they?”
Ash picked up the tiny gargoyle. “This is actually my mother. The one you picked up first is my sister.”
“You have a sister?”
“Yes, and I had a brother.” Ash reached beyond Tom to pick up a sculpture of a man wearing tattered medieval clothes. Ian’s smile was the most prominent part of his face, in Ash’s opinion. Ian was human, neither parent being in gargoyle heat when they had him. His mother had carried and produced Ash’s egg from her heat, while his father had been in heat for Ash’s sister Rochelle. As a human, Ian was susceptible to a human life span and illnesses. Many gargoyle parents chose not to have children for that reason. Burying a child is never easy. Ash missed Ian greatly and still felt the loss of his brother three hundred years later. He placed the statuette in Tom’s hands. “He was a wonderful man.”
Tom turned the figure around, glancing at Ian’s face then Ash’s face.
